Read the table in scoring order.

This is every scoring award in the December 2024 LRC Taiwanese rules as Mahjong Club scores them, with its points and when it applies. LRC counts points, not tai: add up the awards a winning hand earns, then add the 5-point base.

Score from the outside in. Special Hands come first, then the other awards in the order of this table, and the base is added last. When awards overlap, such as one Pong of Winds and Big 3 Winds, only the highest award in that group counts. The note under each heading says which awards replace each other.

Sets of Flowers and Concealed Gongs are paid when they happen instead of being added to the winning hand.

These values belong to the LRC rules. Other Taiwanese tables often count tai, with different awards and values, so agree on the rules before you play. To see the table applied, follow three worked LRC scoring examples.

Terms: a sheung is three consecutive numbered tiles in one suit, a pong is three identical tiles, a gong is four, and the eyes are the pair. Honours are the Wind and Dragon tiles.

Base, extras and payments

Base

AwardPointsWhen it applies
Base Point5The table’s Base Point amount is added after all other hand points, including Special Hand points. The LRC standard Base is 5 points.
  • Nico Nico with concealed Gongs: one concealed Gong adds 10 points and two add 25, on top of the Nico Nico award.
  • Calling (closing your hand) is optional and needs all four players to agree before the game. A called hand that wins adds 5 points. Ranked play leaves Calling off.
  • Dealer streak: consecutive dealer wins add 3, 5, 7 points and so on, with no cap in the standard contract.

On a discard win, only the discarder pays the hand’s value. On a self-draw, each of the three opponents pays it. When a player wins by Robbing a Gong, the player who declared the Gong pays.
